Wahlenbergia rupicola G.T.Plunkett & J.J.Bruhl APNI* Description: Perennial herb with a long, fleshy rootstock, terete, whitish. Stems erect or ascending, 8–75 cm long, glabrous.
Leaves mostly opposite, often becoming alternate towards inflorescense, obovate to narrowly acute, 3–36 mm long, 1–9 mm wide, margins ± undulate, with small distant callus teeth, mostly glabrous with marginal hairs.
Flowers in thyrsoides of up to 6 flowers; pedicels 3–20 cm long. Sepals narrowly triangular, 2–4 mm long. Corolla mostly shortly campanulate, sometimes deeply campanulate, mostly blue, often white on lower part of tube; tube 2–6 mm long; lobes 5, rarely 4 or 6, 3–11 mm long. Style 2-fid, rarely 3-fid, ± constricted halfway down.
Capsule obconic to elongated obconic, 4–11 mm long, glabrous.
Flowering: December–March.
Distribution and occurrence: restricted to the eastern escarpment of the New England Tableland.
