Vitex trifolia L. APNI* Description: Shrub or small tree to 6.5 m high.
Leaves mostly 3-foliolate with terminal leaflet often largest, sometimes 1-, 2- or 5-foliolate; leaflets oblong-elliptic or ovate, mostly 3–8 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, apex ± short-acuminate to obtuse, base cuneate or rounded, margins entire, upper surface ± glabrous and green but drying black, lower surface greyish or whitish tomentose; longest petiolules 10–15 mm long, basal leaflets ± sessile; petiole 5–60 mm long.
Cymes in upper leaf axils, arranged into a pyramidal thyrse, mostly 5–20 cm long, 4–8 cm wide. Calyx 2–3 mm long. Corolla varying from blue to purplish; tube 4–6 mm long.
Drupe ± globose, 4–6 mm diam., turning yellowish red and finally blue or black.
Flowering: mostly spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in riverine or near-coastal communities; north from Ballina.
