Description: Perennial herb spreading by stolons, often appearing acaulescent; rooted sections of the stolon forming rosettes of leaves to 6.5 cm high on short fleshy rhizomes.
Leaves petiolate; petioles 9—23 cm long, pilose or villous, occasionally glabrous. Stipules narrowly ovate; margin irregularly fimbriate; apex acute, aristate. Lamina reniform, subreniform or ovate, 5.5—23 mm long, 7—27 mm wide, darker green above, lighter green below, both surfaces pilose or occasionally glabrous; base cordate or (occasionally) truncate, usually with a deep sinus; margins crenate with 4—9(–10) lobes per side, ciliate or glabrous, occasionally some lobes serrate.
Flowers solitary on scapes 25—80 mm long, extending above the leaves. Corolla more or less concolorous, pale blue-violet, white towards centre; anterior petal obovate with venation usually somewhat irregular, apex emarginate; lateral petals spreading in new and twisted to about 90 degrees in mature flowers, usually bearded; dorsal petals erect in young and reflexed in mature flowers, more or less ovate.
Fruit a capsule, 5—6 mm long, 3-valved, often purple spotted. Seeds shiny or dull dark brown mottled with light brown or tan, 1—1.2 mm long.
Flowering: October to April
Distribution and occurrence: Moist situations in wet sclerophyll forests and woodlands, or on rockfaces, north from about Sydney.
