Description: Procumbent or erect herb, 0.1–0.5 m high, much-branched from base; branches laterally flattened to quadrangular, sparsely hairy.
Leaves petiolate, triangular or ovate-cuneate in outline, uni- or bipartite-pinnatifid or -pinnatisect, 2–4 cm long, 1.5–2.5 cm wide, with lobes bluntly toothed.
Inflorescence terminal, with spikes slender; bracts usually half as long as calyx. Calyx 4-toothed, c. 3 mm long. Corolla lilac, c. 1.5 times as long as calyx; tube c. 1.5–2 mm long.
Mericarps 2–2.5 mm long.
Flowering: Flowers mainly November–March
Distribution and occurrence: Weed chiefly of the Slopes, Plains and Far Western Plains regions. Naturalised in Vic. and S.A. Native of Mediterranean region. Occurring in waste lands and damp, often heavy clay soils or sandy areas.
