Utricularia stellaris L.f. APNI* Description: Suspended aquatic perennial herb.
Leaves 1–6 cm long, divided from base into 3–6 ± equal primary segments, each ± pinnately divided.
Traps lateral on secondary segments of leaves; obliquely ovoid, stalked, 1–3 mm long; with mouth lateral, with or without 2 dorsal simple or sparsely branched hair-like appendages. Raceme erect, emergent, 3–30 cm long, 2–12-flowered, with a whorl of 3–8 spongy floats at or above middle (floats narrowly ovoid, sessile, 5–20 mm long, with short leafy segments at or near apex); axis short, nor greatly elongating in fruit; scales absent; bracts basifixed, c. 2 mm long; bracteoles absent. Calyx lobes sub-equal, broadly ovate to circular, c. 3 mm long (at anthesis). Corolla 7–10 mm long, yellow (spots absent), densely covered externally with fine multicellular gland-tipped hairs; spur cylindrical from a broadly conical base, shorter than lower lip.
Capsule globose, 3–4 mm diam., with persistent style up to 1.5 mm long; walls somewhat fleshy; seeds disc-shaped, 0.8–1.2 mm wide, 4–6-angled (narrowly winged on all angles).
Flowering: Throughout the year.
Distribution and occurrence: In NSW near Cuttabri. Also native to Africa, India to SE Asia. Grows in shallow to deep, still or slowly flowing water.
