Strychnos arborea A.W.Hill APNI* 
Description: Tree to 12 m high; super-axillary spines to 20 mm long, disappearing as growth proceeds; tendrils lacking; stems with appressed hairs < 0.4 mm long.
Leaves with lamina broad-ovate to ovate, 3–6 cm long, 2–4.5 cm wide; lower surface with a few appressed hairs on basal region of main veins; petiole 3–4 mm long.
Inflorescence axillary, 1.5–3 cm long, pubescent. Corolla 3–4 mm long, white; inner surface with a line of long ± erect hairs at mouth; lobes thickened. Stamens inserted about half-way down tube.
Fruit globose, c. 10 mm diam., orange-red, surface smooth; seeds 1 or rarely 2, circular, c. 8 mm diam., glabrous.
Flowering: November–February
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in dry rainforest; recorded north from Ramornie (Grafton district).
