Description: Shrub to 2 m high, chiefly c. 70 cm high, glabrous.
Leaves ascending, linear to oblanceolate, usually 3–6 cm long, mostly 2–6 mm, rarely to 15 mm wide, apex mucronate, base tapering, lamina stiff, thick, veins obscure in narrow leaves; ± sessile.
Common peduncle 2–6 mm long, pedicels 6–7 mm long. Perianth 4–5 mm long, whitish.
Follicle ± compressed-ovoid, 3–4 cm long and usually 10–15 mm diam., with a beak 3–6 mm long, pedicel recurved in fruit; seed winged at both ends and with an outer black membranous wing around the inner wing.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in coastal sandy areas; scattered north of Byron Bay district, rare.
