Description: Erect subshrub to 1 m high; stems with short stellate hairs and scattered simple hairs.
Leaves lanceolate to linear-oblong, 1.5–5 cm long, 0.5–1.8 cm wide, margins serrate, surfaces densely stellate hairy; stipules to c. 4 mm long.
Flowers solitary on slender pedicels, sometimes 3 or 4 at end of branches. Calyx 6–10 mm long, not greatly enlarged in fruit, densely stellate-hairy, inner surface of the calyx tube glabrous. Corolla yellow to orange, 7–12 mm long.
Fruit slightly transverse-ellipsoid, c. 6 mm diam., flattish apically, subglabrous; mericarps 8–10, reticulate on lateral wall, 2-ribbed on the back, tapering into 2 erect apical awns c. 5 mm long, barbellate with short reflexed hairs.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows on floodout areas, creek banks and at the base of rocky hills.
