Senecio microbasis I.Thomps. APNI* Description: Erect herb to 0.6 m high, ± glabrous or sparsely appressed-cottony basally.
Leaves in the middle third of the stems becomming distinctly wider spaced and narrower upwards, narrow-oblanceolate to linear, 4–10 cm long, entire or scattered denticulate, base attenuate, surfaces scabridulous, lower surface purple; uppermost leaves narrow-linear, surfaces sparsely coarse hairy or glabrous.
Inflorescence corymbose with 20–60 flower heads per stem; involucre 5–7 mm long, 1.0–1.4 mm diam., bracteoles 3–5. Florets 12–25, disicform, c.80% female; corolla of bisexual florets 5–6 mm long, mostly 4-lobed; female florets 0.2 mm long, 3 lobed.
Achenes 2.0–2.8 mm long, red-brown or dark brown; pappus 4.5–6 mm long.
Flowering: Flowers spring –summer.
Distribution and occurrence: In SE Australia from Mount Kaputar in north central NSW south to near Omea in E Victoria, and in E Tasmania. Probably introduced at Kambalda in S Western Australia. Grows in dry forest and woodland.
