Senecio longicollaris I.Thomps. APNI* Description: Erect herb to 1.8 m high, glabrous or with sparsely appressed cottony hairs.
Leaves in middle third of stems evenly spaced and sized, very narrow elliptic, 8–24 cm long, denticulate, base attenuate or with small, entire auricles; upper surface sparsely appressed-cottony, glabrescent; lower surface green, with sparse to moderate coarse hairs. Uppermost leaves similar; base cuneate.
Inflorescence corymbose with 30–100 flower heads; involucre 7–9 mm long, 2–3 mm diam., bracteoles 4–8. Florets 30–50, disciform, 80% female, corolla of bisexual florets 6–8 mm long, 5 lobed, corolla lobes of female flowers 0.2 mm long, 3 or 4 lobed.
Achenes 4–6 mm long, brown; pappus 6–7 mm long.
Flowering: Flowers all year around, but mostly in summer–autumn.
Distribution and occurrence: Occurs in far SE Queensland, south western plains of NSW (floodplain of the Murray River and Booligal and Wanganella) in N central Victoria from Porepunkah west to Barmah Forest, and far SE South Australia. Found growing in floodplains and roadsides in proximity to rivers.
