Description: Shrub 1–1.5 m high.
Leaves ± ovate to elliptic or obovate, 3–7 cm long, 5–30 mm wide, glabrous or at first pubescent, sharply toothed; petiole c. 10 mm long.
Flowers c. 10 mm diam. Sepals not persistent, often red. Petals white tinged with pink. Pome ± globose, 5–10 mm diam., bluish; seeds 1 or 2.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Sometimes cultivated as an ornamental, rarely naturalized around old habitations. Native of Asia.
