Description: Perennial, glabrous or sparsely pilose.
Flowering stems 15–45 cm high.
Leaves with lamina divided into broad segments with blunt spreading lobes mostly 2–8 mm wide; petiole 8–42 cm long. Sepals pilose. Petals 5–14, 8–18 mm long, 3.5–7.5 mm wide; nectary lobe attached laterally to form a pocket.
Achenes 25–95, 1.8–2.5 mm long (excluding beak), the margin conspicuously thickened.
Flowering: mostly spring or summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows on mud or black soil, mostly in intermittently wet sites.
