Description: Perennial.
Flowering stems simple or few-branched, mostly 10–50 cm high.
Leaves with lamina ovate, 0.7–6 cm long and often broader, ternately lobed or rarely ternate, the lobes with obtuse teeth; petiole 1–15 cm long. Flowers 8–16 mm diam. Petals 5, usually elliptic, 6–9 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, golden-yellow; the nectary with an ovate or oblong lobe.
Achenes 1.7–3 mm long, mostly smooth with a distinct marginal ridge.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: In grassland, woodland and forest, mostly between 900 and 1500 m alt.
