Polygala paniculata L. APNI*
Description: Erect much-branched annual herb, 10–50 cm high, woody at base; stems minutely glandular-hairy.
Leaves narrow-elliptic to linear-ovate, 2–20 mm long, usually 1–2 mm wide, usually glabrous.
Racemes mostly leaf-opposed, 2–6 cm long; pedicels < 1 mm long. Flowers 2–2.5 mm long, white or rose pink to purple. Outer sepals 0.7–1 mm long; wing sepals c. 2 mm long. Keel slightly shorter than lateral petals, crested with a much-branched appendage.
Capsule elliptic-oblong, c. 2 mm long.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized sparingly in Warragamba Dam area and on the north coast. Native of trop. Amer.
