Plectranthus ciliatus E.Mey. APNI*
Description: Pleasantly aromatic, soft, perennial straggling herb or subshrub to c. 60 cm high, succulent; branches spreading to erect, densely covered with maroon-purple, long multicelled, spreading hairs, short gland-tipped hairs and orange sessile glands more common towards apex.
Leaves with lamina broad-elliptic, broad-ovate or ± circular, mostly 4–8 cm long, 3–5.5 cm wide; apex acute to obtuse; base attenuate to abruptly cuneate; margins regularly and shallowly crenate, with 8–14 pairs of teeth; thin-textured and smooth to thickish and wrinkled, sparsely to moderately hairy, mostly restricted to veins on lower surface, densely covered with honey-coloured sessile glands on lower surface; petiole 1.5–3.5 cm long.
Calyx 4–5 mm long, 8–10 mm long in fruit. Corolla 12–15 mm long, whitish, speckled with purple on the inner surface of the lips; tube slightly decurved; lobes with sessile glands.
Flowering: throughout year.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in sandy soils, usually overlying sandstone; naturalized in the Sydney. Native of SE Afr.
