Plantago turrifera B.G.Briggs, Carolin & Pulley APNI*
Description: Annual herb, with a slender persistent taproot; pilose.
Leaves basal, narrow-elliptic, 4–10 cm long, 8–25 mm wide, 3–5-veined, margins usually obscurely toothed.
Scapes to mostly 8–20 cm long; spike 3–11 cm long; bracts ovate, 2.8–3.5 mm long. Sepals elliptic to broad-elliptic, 2.8–3.5 mm long; keel flattened, pilose, a quarter to half the breadth of the sepal. Corolla lobes ovate, 1.5–2.3 mm long.
Capsule ovoid to globose, 3–3.8 mm long; seeds up to 5.
Flowering: mostly August–February
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in grassland, forest and woodland; in temporarily moist sites; chiefly in inland districts, sparingly naturalized in the Blue Mtns and Sydney region.
