Plantago multiscapa B.G.Briggs APNI* Description: Annual herb, with a persistent taproot; pilose with short hairs.
Leaves basal, numerous, narrow-linear, mostly 3–6.5 cm long, 0.7–2 mm wide, indistinctly 1-veined, margins entire or with 1 or 2 small teeth.
Scapes numerous, 15–100 in number, 5–8 cm long; spike very short, to 4 cm long; bracts triangular, 1.5–3 mm long. Sepals elliptic, 2.5–3 mm long; glabrous or sparsely pilose, a half to two-thirds the breadth of the sepal. Corolla lobes triangular, 0.8–1 mm long.
Capsule ellipsoidal, 3.0–3.6 mm long; seeds 4.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in depressions, claypans and creeks in sand-dune country; rare in N.S.W., recorded only in Sturt N.P.
