Description: Erect dioecious shrub to 2 m high, stems velvety with white hairs, glabrescent with age.
Leaves alternate, usually elliptic to obovate, 5–19 mm long, 3–6 mm wide, often recurved, silvery, silky on both surfaces.
Flowers in bracteate heads; peduncles 3–8 mm long, velvety. Bracts 6–12, broad-ovate, silky. Male heads 50–100-flowered, female heads 25–70-flowered. Flowers 7–10 mm long, ± tomentose, yellow, drying tan.
Fruit green, c. 5 mm long.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows on sandy soils, widespread inland districts.
