Parsonsia largiflorens (F.Muell. ex Benth.) S.T.Blake APNI* Description: Twiner to 5 m high, sap watery.
Leaves ovate to broadly ovate, 6–16 cm long, 4–9 cm wide, apex rounded, mucronate or shortly acuminate, cordate or broadly cuneate at base, glabrous, thinly coriaceous; petiole 15–50 mm long.
Flowers hairy, c. 5 mm across, on pedicels 3–5 mm long, in compact pubescent few-flowered axillary cymes. Corolla lobes narrow-ovate, mucronate, 2.5–3 mm long, spreading, bearded at base inside; tube 1.5–2 mm long. Anther cone with tip exserted; filaments straight.
Capsule 9–14 cm long, fusiform or narrowly conical.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in rainforest, including drier types; from the Cairns area south to the Tweed River. Williams (1996) states P. largiflorens is now apparently extinct in NSW. However, a 2009 collection held at BRI was made only 60 m north of the Queensland/ NSW border, and so the status of this species in NSW appears uncertain.
