Description: Erect annual to 50 cm high.
Basal leaves 2–3-pinnatisect, 10–15 cm long, hairy.
Peduncle hairy. Petals crimson with a purplish blotch at the base, 15–20 mm long, readily shed. Stamens yellow.
Capsule with stiff antrorse bristles, with 4–8 stigmatic rays.
Distribution and occurrence: widespread minor weed. Native of Europe.
