Papaver argemone L. APNI*
Description: Erect hairy annual to 50 cm high.
Leaves pinnatisect, hairy, to 15 cm long.
Peduncle hairy. Petals 20–25 mm long, red, often with a dark spot at the base, readily shed. Stamens and filaments purple.
Capsule with stiff antrorse bristles, ribbed; stigmatic rays 4–6.
Distribution and occurrence: uncommon weed. Native of Europe.
