Onopordum myriacanthum Boiss. APNI* Description: Annual or biennial to 2 m high.
Upper leaves 2–5 cm long, 1–2 cm wide.
Heads pedunculate; involucral bracts lanceolate to 3–4.5 cm long, with apical spines 3–5 mm long, outer bracts densely cobwebby and recurved, inner bracts narrower, 2–4 mm wide. Florets purple.
Achenes obovoid, greyish, transversely rugose, 5–6 mm long; pappus plumose.
Flowering: Summer
Distribution and occurrence: Weed of pastures, roadsides and wasteland; native of Bulgaria, Greece, Crete and western Turkey
