Oenothera mollissima L. APNI*
Description: Annual herb to c. 100 cm high, without rosette; stems rather woody, often branched, softly hairy.
Leaves narrow-lanceolate to elliptic, usually 3–5 cm long, 4–10 mm wide, apex acute, margins with regular, shallow teeth.
Flowers in the upper leaf axils. Hypanthium usually 2–5 cm long. Sepals c. 10 mm long. Petals 10–20 mm long, yellow becoming reddish with age.
Fruit ± cylindrical, broader in the upper part, often curved, usually c. 25 mm long, 3–4 mm wide, villous.
Flowering: late winter to summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized in disturbed sites. North from Sydney. Native of S Amer.
