Oenothera longiflora L. APNI* 
Description: Robust annual or biennial herb, to c. 100 cm high with basal rosette; stems densely villous with shorter glandular hairs.
Basal leaves obovate to oblanceolate, 6–18 cm long, 15–35 mm wide, minutely toothed; cauline leaves mostly ovate to elliptic, usually 2–4 cm long, 10–30 mm wide, margins irregularly toothed, sessile.
Flowers in upper leaf axils, sometimes leaves reduced and bract-like. Hypanthium 8–10 cm long. Sepals usually 1.5–2.5 cm long. Petals 2–4 cm long, yellow, often with a red base, becoming dark red with age.
Fruit cylindrical, 3–4 cm long and 3–4 mm wide, slightly curved.
Flowering: spring–autumn.
Distribution and occurrence: Naturalized in disturbed areas. Native of S Amer.
