Plants of Nymphaea alba cultivated in Australia are of hybrid origin. These horticultural hybrids can have complex parentage and often display broad morphological variation. To explain this variation, NSW lists the taxon as N. alba and hybrids; in the literature and other States, this is equivalent to just N. alba.
