Description: Shrub with young stems reddish.
Leaves narrow-elliptic or oblong-elliptic, mostly 6–12 cm long, 1.5–4 cm wide, apex tapered to a fine point, base mostly rounded, margins entire, often undulate, upper surface dull green, lower surface paler, faintly veined in both fresh and dried specimens, drying green but turning blackish above and red-brown below with age; petiole 2–3 mm long, reddish.
Fruit 3–5 mm diam., shiny black; pedicel 1–3 mm long.
Distribution and occurrence: in subtropical rainforest north from Ballina, especially on the coastal ranges.
