Myriophyllum papillosum Orchard APNI* Description: Perennial herb, aquatic or fully emergent, emergent stems sparsely or densely papillose; stems mostly 5–6 mm diam., rooting at the nodes in fully emergent plants.
Emergent leaves in whorls of 5 or 6, linear with numerous short teeth, usually 25–45 mm long, c. 3 mm wide.
Plants monoecious; male and female flowers on the same shoot, often in groups of 2 or 3 in the axils. Male flowers sessile; sepals mostly lanceolate; petals 2.5–3.5 mm long, white. Female flowers very shortly pedicellate; sepals and petals absent; stigmas deep reddish purple. Mericarps green to reddish purple, narrowly ovoid, up to 1 mm long, coarsely papillose.
Distribution and occurrence: in shallow water or on mud; mainly on the Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Murray River systems.
