Description: Perennial aquatic herb; stems 3–3.5 mm diam., rooting at the nodes.
Emergent leaves in whorls of usually 2 or 3, mostly lanceolate or rarely ± elliptic, shortly toothed in the upper half, 15–45 mm long, usually 3–5 mm wide.
Plants usually dioecious; male flowers solitary, female flowers in groups of 1–3. Male flowers sessile; sepals lanceolate; petals c. 3.5 mm long, cream. Female flowers sessile; sepals minute, triangular; petals absent; stigmas white.
Fruit unknown.
Distribution and occurrence: in still water more than 30 c. deep.
