Muraltia heisteria (L.) DC. APNI*
Description: Stiff, erect or spreading shrub, to 1 m high; stems pubescent and bearing contracted shoots giving a tufted appearance to foliage.
Leaves clustered along stems, lanceolate or ± linear, 5–12 mm long, 1–3 mm wide, keeled, rigid and pungent-pointed, margins and keel usually hairy.
Flowers 7–12 mm long, purple to pinkish mauve, occasionally white. Sepals ± equal, 4–5 mm long. Petals 8–10 mm long.
Capsule ovate, c. 5 mm long, minutely pubescent with 4 horn-like appendages.
Flowering: August–October
Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated, occasionally naturalized in coastal eastern suburbs of Sydney. Native of S Afr.
