Description: Erect to ascending, stoloniferous perennial or possibly annual herb, 4–35 cm high, rooting from stolon, glabrous.
Leaves not joined at nodes, lanceolate to linear-oblong, 5–35 mm long, 2–6 mm wide, apex ± bluntly acute, base narrow-cuneate to rounded, margins entire or sparsely toothed; sessile.
Flowers 1 in axils; pedicels 1–7 cm long. Calyx 4–6 mm long; teeth equal, c. 1 mm long. Corolla 2-lipped, blue, purple or lilac; tube 7–10 mm long, yellow; upper lip recurved, lower lip c. 4–7 mm long, spreading, with a prominent raised yellow palate behind closing the mouth.
Capsule ellipsoid to globose, 5–6 mm long.
Flowering: May–September
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in depressed areas after flooding, by claypans, swamps and creeks; widespread, chiefly on the Slopes and plains.
