Melaleuca trichostachya Lindl. APNI* 
Description: Small tree to 10 m high with papery bark.
Leaves opposite to ± opposite, linear to linear-lanceolate, 10–30 mm long, 1–2.5 mm wide, apex acute, apiculate, glabrous; petiole c. 1 mm long.
Inflorescences many-flowered spikes up to 4.5 cm long; rachis with fine spreading hairs. Flowers solitary within each bract, white. Petals obovate to broad-elliptic, 2–2.5 mm long. Stamens 30–60 per bundle; claw 4–8 mm long.
Fruit turbinate, 3–4 mm diam., valves exserted from the unconstricted orifice; sepals tardily caducous.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows along watercourses or on ground subject to flooding, north from Walgett.
