Malva verticillata L. APNI* 
Description: Erect herb to c. 1 m high.
Leaves ± circular 8–10 cm diam., 5–7-lobed, base cordate, margins finely toothed, hoary; petiole to 15 cm long.
Flowers 4–6 in small axillary whorls. Epicalyx segments linear, shorter than calyx. Calyx 3–5 mm long, lobes triangular to lanceolate, stellate-hairy, spreading in fruiting stage. Petals 4–6 mm long, white or pink.
Fruit 6–7 mm diam., ridged between carpels; carpels 8–12.
Distribution and occurrence: Native of N Afr., Eur., Asia.
