Description: Stem subterranean, 10–25 cm diam.
Leaves 2–7 in crown, 50–100 cm long, rachis not twisted to moderately twisted; pinnae 70–110, bright green, semiglossy, simple or occasionally dichotomously branched, concolorous or weakly discolorous, longest pinnae12–26 cm long, 5–9 mm wide; basal pinnae not reduced to spines; petiole 12–22 cm long.
Male cones 16–25 cm long, 4.5–5.5 cm diam.; spines 0.2–1.5 cm long. Female cones 13–20 cm long, 7–9 cm diam.; spines 0.2–3 cm long; seeds ovoid, 2.6–3 cm long, 2.2–2.5 cm wide; red.
Distribution and occurrence: Locally abundant in dry sclerophyll woodlands on sandy soils over sandstone around Coonabarabran and north to the southern Pilliga Scrub. Dry sclerophyll woodlands on sandy soils over sandstone.
