Description: Stem mostly subterranean, sometimes arborescent, to 0.6 m high, 25–45 cm diam.
Leaves 20–70 in crown, 100–205 cm long, rachis not spirally twisted; pinnae 70–140, deep green, basal pinnae reduced to spines; petiole 6–15 cm long.
Male cones 35–40 cm long, 6–8 cm diam.; spines 0.5–6 cm long. Female cones 24–34 cm long, 12–14 cm diam.; spines 2–11 cm long; seeds oblong 3.3–4.2 cm long, red.
Distribution and occurrence: Locally abundant in wet sclerophyll forest; Macleay R. to Manning R. catchment areas, inland to the Big Hill (SE of Wollomombi). Wet sclerophyll forest.
