Description: Stem mostly subterranean, 10–20 cm diam.
Leaves 2–12 in the crown, 60–110 cm long; rachis spirally twisted; pinnae 50–120 cm long, ± spreading and forwardly directed, simple and mostly entire except for 2–7 teeth towards apices, longest 18–30 cm long, 9–17 mm wide, with 10–13 prominent veins below, sometimes a few reduced but not spine-like.
Male cones 15–25 cm long, 4–6 cm diam., spines to 1.8 cm long. Female cones 12–18 cm long, 7–9 cm diam., longest spines 1.5–2.5 cm long; seeds 2.5–3 cm long, scarlet.
Distribution and occurrence: in dry or wet sclerophyll forest on poor sandy soils in the Upper Richmond R. and Clarence R. valleys. Dry or wet sclerophyll forest on poor sandy soils.
