Luzula longiflora Benth. APNI* Description: Grass-like, caespitose perennial herb, with ascending rhizome.
Leaves 5–35 cm long, sparsely fringed with long white hairs; apex obtuse.
Inflorescence usually branched, with (1-)3–9 dense heads of flowers; 1–3 involucral bracts leaf-like, to 20 cm long. Flowers with tepals c. 4 mm long, long-acuminate, dark brown or with a paler margin. Stamens 6; filaments c. 1.5 mm long.
Fruit a capsule, oblong-ovoid, acute to acuminate, straw-brown, smooth, much shorter than perianth, c. 1.9–2.2 mm long.
Distribution and occurrence: Endemic to Lord Howe Island. On ledges and in rock crevices on the upper slopes of Mts Gower and Lidgbird.
