Description: More or less glabrous annual to 1 m high.
Basal leaves mostly 3–10 cm long, 10–40 mm wide, 5–7-lobed.
Flowering stems 3-winged; wing 3–8 mm wide, terminal lobe stiff, to 30 mm long. Raceme compact; terminal units of flowers with a 3-toothed wing, 20 cm long, 5 mm wide; terminal units 2-flowered with inner bract c. 6 mm long. Calyx c. 10 mm long, glabrous, pale blue or whitish; the acute lobes of limb alternating with 5 bristle-like prolongations of the veins. Corolla yellow.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated, occasionally naturalized. Native of Asia & Afr.
