Lagenophora brachyglossa Jian Wang ter & A.R.Bean APNI* Description: Herb with rhizomes, stem absent or to 5 mm long.
Leaves 6–9, oblanceolate to obovate, 3–10 cm long, 0.9–2.5 cm wide, sessile or with a winged petiole to 2 cm long, apex obtuse, margins crenate to sinuate; discolourous, grey-green on upper leaf, pale green below, both surfaces eglandular.
Inforescence on scapes 10–16 mm long at flowering and 9–30 cm long at fruiting stage, 2–6 per plant, with 3–5 bracts. Involucre 4–6 mm long, 6–10 mm diam.; involucral bracts 20–40 in 3 or 4 rows, glabrous, outer bracts shorter than inner bracts. Ray florets 35–45 in 2–4 rows, female, bright pink to purple. Disc florets 15–20, functionally male, light yellow.
Achenes obliquely oblanceolate, laterally compressed, 3.8 mm long with beak, light brown to brown, hairs absent from base of achene.
Flowering: Flowers November to March.
Distribution and occurrence: Endemic to Eastern Australia, widespread in NSW, Queensland and Victoria. It occurs mainly in the higher altitude and higher rainfall areas. Grows on basaltic clayey soils in open forests and woodland with grassy understorey.

Similar to L. gracilis, but differs as has a very small ligule and longer achene. From the Greek brachy and glossus meaning short tongued. This refers to the very short ligules of this species.
