Juncus radula Buchenau APNI*
Description: Slender, shortly rhizomatous perennial. Culms terete, 20–65 cm long, 0.7–1.5(-2.7) mm diam., finely scabrous at least in upper half, ± soft, grey-green, glaucous; culm striations 12–28; pith continuous.
Cataphylls 7–14 cm long, ± lax, abaxially yellow-brown to pink-brown or red-brown at base, adaxially silvery.
Inflorescence pseudolateral, diffuse, usually 4–12 cm long; flowers numerous, solitary or loosely clustered; branches scabrous; lowest involucral bract 9–28(-40) cm long, longer than inflorescence. Tepals often scabrous on midrib, straw-brown, occasionally tinged red-brown, with broad hyaline margins; outer tepals (1.9-)2.7–4.3 mm long, longer than or equalling inner tepals. Stamens 6 (rarely 3–5), shorter than outer tepals; anthers 0.6–1.1 mm long.
Capsule shorter than to slightly longer than outer tepals, ellipsoid to oblong or ovoid, broad-acute to obtuse, not or scarcely apiculate, golden brown.
Flowering: spring–summer.
Distribution and occurrence: South from Gilgandra; probably introduced to CT (only known from near Lithgow). Grows in seasonally damp situations, in woodland and open grassland.

Other Australian states: Qld Vic. W.A. S.A.
Unique in this subgenus in having finely scabrous culms.
