Description: Perennial herb to 40 cm high; stems erect, tufted, glabrous to shortly pubescent.
Leaves elliptic to obovate in outline, 6–10 cm long, 6–50 mm wide, lamina pinnatisect with the undivided part of lamina 1–2 mm wide; lobes linear, 0.5–2 mm wide, acute, sometimes toothed.
Flowers solitary in the axils of leaves; bracts or bracteoles caducous; peduncles 4–13 cm long. Calyx lobes 3–8 mm long. Corolla usually white flushed with pink or mauve; tube 10–20 mm long; lobes 10–15 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, oblong-lanceolate. Lower anthers with 1 long bristle and a few short hairs. Ovary inferior, obconical, 2–3 mm long.
Capsule ellipsoid to obconical, 5–17 mm long.
Flowering: October–May.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in damp crevices or pockets of humus in rocky areas often on granite; north from Ebor district.
