Hakea purpurea Hook. APNI* 
Description: Shrub 1–3 m high, very young shoots with a few silky hairs, otherwise glabrous.
Leaves terete, 3–10 cm long, leaves often divided into 2–4 slender pungent segments 3–10 cm long, 1–1.5 mm diam., glabrous; leaves usually all ± entire or all divided.
Conflorescences axillary, flowers clustered or raceme-like and with rachis to 1 cm long; pedicels 10–15 mm long. Perianth c. 10 cm long, reddish purple, glabrous. Style 20–30 mm long.
Follicle ± ovoid, 30–40 mm long, c. 15 mm wide, glabrous, not or scarcely beaked; wing completely surrounding the seed.
Flowering: spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Confined to hilly sites north of Yetman; rare, more widespread in central Qld.
