Description: Erect to prostrate shrub 0.3–3 m high.
Leaves pinnatisect 1.5–6 cm long; lobes divaricate, mostly 3–11, or rarely up to 25 per leaf, linear to oblong, pungent, 0.5–4 cm long, 0.7–2.2 mm wide, margins revolute to the midvein.
Inflorescences occasionally cauline, mostly 2.5–5 cm long; receptacle oblique. Perianth usually red to pink, generally subsericeous outside, glabrous inside or with hairs in the throat. Gynoecium stipitate, 19–29 mm long, glabrous, reflexed at ovary.
Follicle glabrous.
Flowering: mainly spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Mallee scrub or woodland, sandy to clayey often lateritic or calcareous soils.
