Description: Erect perennial to 3 m high, ± glabrous.
Leaves with lamina 5–10 cm long, deeply divided into 3–7 narrow lobes or sometimes the lobes suppressed on upper leaves; petiole 5–6 cm long; stipules linear, 5–7 mm long, falling early.
Flowers solitary or few together; peduncle 5–6 cm long. Epicalyx segments c. 10 mm long, free, entire, acute. Petals 1.5–3.0 cm long, cream.
Capsule ovoid, 10–15 mm long, 3- or 4-locular; seeds glabrous or with very few, fine, short hairs.
Distribution and occurrence: Native of U.S.A., occasionally naturalized.
