Description: Spreading, slender annual; stems much branched, to 30 cm long, becoming wiry, glabrous or with scattered, short hairs.
Leaves and stipules in whorls of 6–8 but gradually decreasing to 2 on flowering branches, linear to oblanceolate, 3–10 mm long, apex acute, often with a colourless bristle, margins with antrorse hairs; petiole minute.
Inflorescences 3–12-flowered; peduncles filiform, mostly 10–15 mm long; pedicels mostly 2–5 mm long. Flowers to 1 mm long, yellowish red.
Fruit 0.5–1 mm long, finely papillose.
Flowering: October–January
Distribution and occurrence: Chiefly in dry open habitats. Native of Europe to SE Asia.
