Freycinetia excelsa F.Muell. APNI* 
Description: Small, woody climber with leafy branches.
Leaves simple, linear to narrow-lanceolate, 10–30 cm long, 6–8 mm wide, margins often recurved, margins and midrib prickly; base sheathing, with auricles to 3 cm wide.
Inflorescence a terminal spike. Male spikes pedunculate, with numerous stamens. Female flowers with 2 or 3 linear staminodes; ovary 1-locular; stigmas 2 or 3. Syncarps succulent, ovoid, 3–6 cm long, 2–3 cm diam.; berries clavate, 3–6 mm long, stigmas 2–4; seeds many, small.
Flowering: early summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in subtropical rainforest; recorded only in the Tweed Valley.
