Description: Erect herb, 0.5–1 m high; stems grooved, ± glabrous or sparsely hairy.
Leaves narrow-lanceolate to narrow-elliptic, , 2.5–11 cm long, 6–22 mm wide, apex acute to acuminate, margins toothed or entire, lamina ± glabrous or sparsely hairy, especially on lower surface; short-petiolate.
Corymbs dense or diffuse, heads numerous, corymb branches 3–12 mm long; heads hemispherical, 3–5 mm diam.; involucral bracts oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, in 3 unequal series, margins ciliate. Florets purplish.
Achenes c. 2 mm long.
Flowering: throughout year.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows along stream banks and in marshy places; north from Woodburn. Native of Afr. & India.
