Eragrostis lanicaulis Lazarides APNI* Description: Perennials to c. 50 cm tall, with knotted woolly-hairy rhizomes and wiry culms; cataphylls woolly below, glabrous above.
Sheaths mostly glabrous, glabrous at the orifice; ligule c. 0.5 mm long; blade to 7 cm long, flat at first but soon tightly rolled, almost pungent.
Inflorescence more or less spicate, to c. 15 cm long, branches to 2.5 cm long and bearing spiklets to the base; spikelets subsessile or with pedicels <1.5 mm long. Spikelets 8–46 mm long, 1.2–1.6 mm wide, biconvex or terete, linear; rachilla persistent, straight, florets <100. Glumes 1.3–1.9 mm long, obtuse, usually notched, rounded or keeled. Lemmas 1.7–2 mm long, obtuse, sometimes notched, with tubercle- based prickles near the apex, lateral nerves midway or somewhat closer to the midnerve, deciduous; palea scabrous or ciliolate at apex, keeled, persistent.
