Description: Slender procumbent to ascending shrub with branches to 100 cm high; stems with ± inconspicuous leaf scars; branchlets villous.

Leaves horizontal to ± reflexed, ovate, 6.7–14 mm long, 2.8–6.2 mm wide, apex acute to acuminate, base cuneate, margins scabrous; lamina thin, flat, both surfaces with long silky hairs; petiole 0.8–1.3 mm.

Flowers few, at end of branches, c. 7.5–10 mm diam., white; peduncle c. 1 mm long; bracts acute to acuminate. Sepals 7.2–10 mm long. Corolla tube 7.8–12 mm long; lobes 3.6–5.8 mm long. Anthers obvious in throat.

Life History

Flowers White, July, October--November; possibly pollinated by Eastern Spinebill Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris (Cohn 1992).

Fruit/seed Capsule, 2 mm long, mature November--January (Cohn 1992).

Dispersal, establishment and growth Diaspore: seed.

Habitat

Habitat Rock ledges, moist gullies, cliff overhangs.

Altitude 800--1000 m Annual rainfall 1100--1400 mm

Typical local abundance Rare.

Vegetation Warm rainforest margin e.g. with Todea barbara, GBleichenia rupestris, Bauera rubioides, Blechnum wattsii, Cyathea australis, Epacris longiflora (Cohn c. 1992); rainforest e.g. Ceratopetalum, Sassafras; scrub.

Substrate Skeletal sandy soils from Narrabeen Sandstone, among sheltered damp rocks, low nutrients.

Exposure Sheltered sites, mid--deep shade.
