Description: Straggling or shrubby wiry perennial to 0.8 m high with hairy or scaly rhizomes.
Leaves with sheath glabrous or hairy; ligule a row of hairs 0.6–1.2 mm long; blade 1–5 mm wide, glabrous or hairy with tubercle-based hairs.
Panicle 2–10 cm long; branches to 3 cm long. Spikelets solitary, 4–6 mm long. Lower glume 1.8–2.8 mm long, faintly 1–3-nerved; upper subequal to the spikelet, 5-nerved. Lower lemma similar to the upper glume but slightly longer, sterile, without a palea; upper 3.5–5.5 mm long, appearing as long as the spikelet, pubescent with fine white hairs, 5-nerved.
Flowering: most of the year.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in damper areas in scrub on sandy or sandstone-derived soils; north from Hilltop.
