Eleocharis parvula (Roem. & Schult.) Link ex Bluff, Nees & Schauer APNI* Description: Small rhizomatous, mat-forming herb with minute fusiform tubers. Culms terete, to 5 cm long, 0.2–0.5 mm diam.
Spikelet small, 2–4 mm long, 1–2 mm diam. Bristles 6, slightly longer than nut or variably shorter, whitish. Anthers 0.7–1.2 mm long. Style 3-fid.
Nut trigonous with distinct angles, obovoid to obpyriform, with small neck, 0.9–1.2 mm long, c. 0.5–0.7 mm diam., straw-coloured to pale brown; style base about a sixth as long as and about a quarter as broad as nut.
Distribution and occurrence: Rarely naturalised south of Sydney. Native of North and Central America, Europe, Asia. Saline mud flats.
